Imagine ...
Cornish hedgerows
full of wild flowers,
'craggy cliffs with quarrelling gulls, the salty fragrance of
hidden creeks'
Crugsillick Manor has been described as one
of the most beautiful houses in Cornwall; it is certainly one
of the oldest and of great historic interest. It is a Grade II*
listed Queen Anne manor house which was extended c. 1710 from
a pre-Elizabethan farmhouse. The house is in a wonderfully peaceful
situation surrounded by a large attractive garden with views
across fields to a wooded valley where a stream runs down to
the sea. Over the hill nearby is the pretty village of Veryan
with its unique round houses and attractive church with 13th
Century porch. Nearby is the picturesque fishing village of Portloe
and St. Mawes with its castle built by Henry VIII with stunning
views across Carrick Roads.
Crugsillick's Cottages are within walking
distance of the beach in a peaceful rural setting. There are
three attractive and exceptionally well equipped cottages. They
have been created from a 400-year-old mill and barns in the grounds
of Crugsillick Manor, one of the historic houses of Cornwall,
where many sub-tropical species flourish in the mild climate
of the beautiful Roseland Peninsula. This is an ideal base to
visit some of Cornwall's famous gardens or to walk the Coastal
Path, arguably here at its most unspoilt. The beaches of Pendower
and Carne, 5 minutes by car, join at low tide to give a mile
long sweep of golden sand; winter habitat for many birds. |
