There are three full height floors and a cellar one of the upper rooms was a "safe" room where the female workers slept, there was a separate access to it from the dairy and bathroom to the brass bed room where the bath now is. This leads up to a three foot square door. The other door connecting to the bedroom has evidence of many locks and bolts having been fitted. ![]() (The Terrace) Most of the guest bed rooms overlook the terrace and gated water garden, with the paddock, cottages and Bardon hill in the distance. The gated garden has been created as a "romantic "garden with places to sit in seclusion with birds and fish for company. The terrace is used for drinks and is a more social place. Beyond the upper garden secure parking is offered for guests who wish to leave cars if flying from East Midlands Airport. The twin bed room has a large collection of blue and white china, the beds were used in the television series "The County Diary of an Edwardian Lady" also the - little chair. The large wardrobe by the brass half tester bed was also used in the film series. The present dining room was the old kitchen and has exposed beams and an unusual built in elm corner cupboard. The guest sitting room has an ingle nook fireplace with a large wood burning stove. This room is also used for guest who wish to have a fireside supper and also as a games room for cards etc. Guest dine together at a communal table but not with the host or hostess; we have a full residents license and suitable wines are stocked to accompany meals served. In season we have a selection of game including venison from the Calke Abbey herd other meats are free range pork and beef and special Church Lane Farm Leg of lamb. Traditional produce is locally grown however our menus do spread beyond the shores of Britain. |
