St Ives is a brilliant place for holidays. It was once a fishing village, and has a lovely harbour. When the tide goes out the harbour is clean yellow sand. There are lots of other beaches - one faces west and is great for surfing. You can walk for miles along the cliffs. The light, and the beauty of the place have always brought artists - the town is liberally scattered with all kinds of galleries, with art to browse and art to buy.
